Top Camera Accessories Every Photographer Should Own

Photography - it could be a great hobby or the makings of a self-established business. The pictures that result from it connect the past to the future; they capture a moment in time and preserve the emotions within them for eternity.

While this idea may sound enticing or poetic, you'll need to have a few or so camera accessories on hand to lift what could be a great shot into the sweet spot that is perfection.

Here are some of the camera accessories you'll want to have to bring, especially if you're a beginner in the photography scene.

Tripod

One of the most sought-after accessories in photography is a good tripod. These come in all shapes and sizes - from small, desk-sized tripods that you can place on any surface to long, heavy-duty ones normally seen in studios and photography in the field.

The purpose of these tripods is obvious to any beginner photographer: they keep cameras stable and level to get photos that would probably be shaky if aimed by hand. Try getting a tripod with a spirit level to help you determine if your shot is level with the ground before pressing the shutter button.

Lens Cleaning Kit

A camera's lens is its bread and butter. Without one, you'd be hard-pressed to take photos, let alone do anything with it. While you could replace camera lenses with new ones, buying a new one each time isn't wise; the lack of maintenance or the failure to clean them could mean a serious dent in your savings.

As such, having a lens cleaning kit is a must for every budding photographer. These kits should include a cleaning solution, lens cleaning pen/brush, air blower cleaner, and a micro cleaning cloth.

Fast Prime Lens

A camera usually comes with the standard kit lens after you purchase one, which is decent enough to get you out of the gate. However, sooner or later, you'll get the urge (or curiosity) to try out different lenses for your camera to have.

While there are many lenses to choose from, experts suggest that a fast prime lens should be your first new lens due to its fixed focal length that results in sharper images and less in about everything - weight, complexity, and risk of a bad shot.

Getting a fast prime lens with a 50mm aperture should do you wonders for general use.

Rubber Lens Cap

Having a lens cleaning kit may be a must-have, but you know what they say: an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. And in this case, having a rubber lens cap is just as important as having a lens cleaning kit.

This nifty gismo does exactly what its name advertises: it covers your camera's lenses and protects it from the elements and other things that might harm your camera's expensive lens. Nothing more, nothing less.

Spare Batteries

Last but not least are your camera's spare batteries. Much like the rubber lens cap, this one is self-explanatory: they keep your camera going when its main one is spent, providing you with more chances to capture more photographs for you to keep and share.

Ideally, having two of these in your camera bag will do, but it's kind of overkill to have two if you're not anticipating using your camera all day long. Unless there are problems with your camera or its batteries, having one will serve you well in most situations.
