Eidos Interactive Newest Game Might Be Live Service

Eidos Interactive is cooking something new for its newest game.

The video game developer behind the popular Deus Ex franchise was recently spotted to have posted a job advert that could contain hints on what it is currently working on.

Eidos Interactive is now under new ownership following Square Enix's sale of the developer to "improve capital efficiency" and avoid cannibalizing sales, per Forbes.

A Reddit user going by the username fo1mock3 mentioned in their post on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit that Eidos Interactive is looking for a Senior Game Designer whose qualifications could provide new clues on what it is working on.

The Reddit user explained that the job advert could be connected to a Deus Ex game that Eidos Interactive is allegedly working on and was in the early stages of developing late last year. They believe the new Senior Game Designer would be working on the alleged Deus Ex game in question.

According to the job advert Eidos Interactive posted, it wants the new Senior Game Designer to have the following capabilities:

  • Hands-on knowledge of technical challenges and approaches related to Player Progression and Game Economy implementation;
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, including experience with Blueprint and data tables;
  • Has experience in working on co-op games;
  • Good analysis & reverse engineering capacity;
  • Desire to have ownership and structure efficiently the subjects you work on;
  • Good versatility to tackle a variety of tasks and collaborate with various teams at the same time;
  • Good understanding of accessibility in game design

While the job advert doesn't mention anything about the Deus Ex franchise, its specification of having experience in working on co-op games and knowledge of Unreal Engine 5 means that whatever game Eidos is working on, it would feature co-op gameplay and graphics made through Epic's Unreal Engine 5.

A Deus Ex Live Service Game?

Interestingly, Eidos Interactive's desire to have a Senior Game Designer knowledgeable about technical challenges and approaches regarding player progression and game economy implementation could mean that the new game Eidos Interactive is working on is a live service game. Whether this means that the next Deus Ex game is a live service game utilizing Unreal Engine 5 is still up for debate.

That aside, it is quite likely that Eidos is working on a Deus Ex game - a Gameranx article mentioned that journalist Jeff Grubb stated in his Game Mess Mornings podcast that Eidos Montreal wants to reexplore Deus Ex and do what Cyberpunk 2077 couldn't.

The rumored game Eidos Interactive is allegedly working on would be the first one it would release after Square Enix sold it to Embracer Group, which gives the developer more breathing room to have more direct control of their projects and a fresh start of the Deus Ex franchise.

Whether this fresh start means a live service entry to the franchise or not is still debatable, though the possibility that it would be is high due to the ongoing demand for live service games.
