NPC Streaming TikTok Trend, Explained

We are all used to seeing TikTok dance challenges and lip-sync performances all over our feed. However, a new trend has finally come with creators on the platform using the live option to stream while acting like a Non-playable character (NPC).

What are NPCs Actually?

NPCs are background characters in role playing games and are programmed to respond when a gamer interacts with them. These responses are already generated by the game developers making them repeat the same response every time you try to interact with them and choose the same option.

Content creators from TikTok quickly adapted to the trend as it gives them an easy way to get gifts, which are convertible to money, during their stream. During livestreams, the viewers have the power to choose what NPC response they are going to get by giving a various gifts. These gifts are shown as stickers like rose, hearts, balloon, and many more.

Users that want to participate or gift their NPC streamer must purchase TikTok coins using real-world money on TikTok's app or website. Gift prices may vary from one TikTok coin up to 34,000 TikTok coins.

How Much Does NPC Streamers Get?

According to CBS News, NPC streamers only get 50 percent of the value of all the gifts they received during their livestream. The gifts will be converted into gift coins and can be exchanged for "digital diamonds." These diamonds will let the streamers to cash out their earnings for every $100 worth of diamonds.

Meanwhile, TikTok gets to keep the other 50 percent. Although it may seem small, big time NPC streamers earn thousand of dollars per day. For instance, popular NPC streamer PinkyDoll gets up to $7,000 per day in her streams.

Some people have divided opinion on NPC streams, some find it appealing while others are annoyed with the repetitive content. Regardless of the reason, many people are still visiting NPC streams and as long as there are viewers, NPC streamers are sure to make a lot of money with this trend.
