Apple’s iOS 17 is Missing Some Features at Launch

Apple's iOS 17 will have some missing features at launch.

The Cupertino-based tech giant recently introduced its upcoming iOS 17 software update for its latest iPhone devices during its "wanderlust" event on Sept. 12, revealing its features to the world.

However, as the leaks about it suggested, it doesn't come with a complete set of features.

iOS 17 Missing Features

Apple's iOS 17 comes with many new features that, according to Apple, "enhance the things" iPhone users do every day. However, iPhone users will not experience every feature the software update has to offer at launch, as the leaks said.

You may recall that Mashable reported in early September that three features will be absent on iOS 17's launch, which Apple scheduled on Sept. 18 - four days before its iPhone 15 lineup launches publicly. According to the publication, these missing features are an AirDrop update, the new Journal app, and Apple Music collaboration.

Apple's official iOS 17 webpage confirmed these features will be absent on compatible iPhones on iOS 17's launch. For those unaware, the AirDrop update will allow iPhone users to share something over AirDrop and continue to send them even if they move away from AirDrop range, provided the sender and recipient are logged into iCloud.

Meanwhile, the Journal app, a fancier version of Apple's Notes, allows users to add media like music, photos, and audio recordings to entries. It will even suggest moments to remember and even lock itself off so nobody else can access it.

Last but not least, the Apple Music collaboration feature would allow multiple iPhone users to add, reorder, or remove songs from a playlist shared between them. They can even react to song choices with emojis to better show what they think about the song selection in the playlist.

However, there is one other feature that Mashable's report didn't cover. Apple's iOS 17 webpage reveals that iOS 17's Enhanced Autofill PDF feature will also be absent on the update's release. This feature allows iPhone users to use their saved information from Contacts to fill out a PDF or scanned document faster, allowing users to return a completed form to the sender with the Mail app much more quickly than before.

Unfortunately, Apple didn't reveal when these features will become available to iPhone users. The company only added a "Coming Later This Year" note on these features on its iOS 17 webpage.

iOS 17 Features Available At Launch

Thankfully, the missing features only make up a small fraction of iOS 17's features. The features available on its release are more than enough for iPhone users to spend their time on and distract themselves with.

The software update comes with new features covering almost everything an iPhone wants or needs - from privacy and security to personalization and health. For instance, iPhone users can customize what they see when people call them with a personalized Contact Poster using a photo or Memoji.

iOS 17 also lets iPhone users notify their friends when they arrive at their destination safely with its Check-In feature. Should an iPhone user using this feature stop making progress for too long, it will share helpful information with their friend, such as their location, battery level, and cell service status of their iPhone.

iPhone users can also download maps for offline use should they go to places without a reliable internet connection with iOS 17. Additionally, iOS 17 comes with a Sensitive Content Warning that gives users the option to blur sensitive photos or videos before they choose to view them. These sensitive photos and videos could come from Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters in the Phone app, FaceTime messages, and third-party apps.

iPhone users interested in knowing more about what new features iOS 17 will add to their phones can head on over to Apple's iOS 17 webpage for more details.
