X Reveals Pricing, Features for Its Two New Premium Tiers

There have been a lot of changes in X, and based on Musk's plan to add subscription tiers to the platform, we can say for sure that he wants to squeeze out as much as he can from it. With that said, X has announced the pricing for its two new Premium tiers and what features come with it.

Basic vs Premium+

In case you have no idea where X Premium is positioned in all this, it seems like it is now the standard plan as X adds a cheaper version and a more expensive version. The new tiers will be called Basic and Premium+, both of which have different offers to Premium.

The Basic plan will cost less than all the others, which will let users pay just $3 a month. Unlike the Premium and Premium+ plans, this will not provide the blue check mark that comes with the verification, and it is not eligible for X's revenue-sharing program.

However, it does come with other paid features such as being able to edit posts, publish long-form content, the ability to download videos, as well as a "small reply boost" and encrypted direct messages, as reported by Engadget.

The Premium+ plan has more to offer, of course, but having more features and perks means that it will cost more. The highest subscription tier will cost $16 a month. With the plan, users will no longer see ads on both their "For you" and "Following" timelines.

It will also have the Blue verification mark that comes with the Premium tier. While Basic only comes with a small reply boost, Premium+ provides the "largest boost for your replies," as opposed to other Premium tier and unverified users.

Users can only subscribe to the new subscription tiers through the web for now, which might be due to X avoiding the additional fees that come with the App Store and Google Play. Its availability will likely reach mobile apps soon enough.

The new tiers might be a way for Musk to pave the way for X to become the "everything app" that he has envisioned for it. However, it might do the opposite. It goes without saying that people prefer not to pay for a service that they can get for free elsewhere.

Meta's Threads is starting to look like the old Twitter that everyone was used to. Aside from all the base features that X has, it has added GIFs and polls recently. Plus, the app also has an edit button which can be used for free, as opposed to X which puts the feature behind a paywall.

You'll Still Have to Pay $1 Soon

Even with all the subscription tiers that you can choose to ignore, you might not be able to escape paying in order to keep using the social media site. X is already testing its $1 yearly subscription fee to access the most basic features of the platform.

As reported by Reuters, the subscription is called "Not a Bot" as it serves as an attempt to eradicate or reduce bot accounts on the microblogging site. Existing users will not be affected, but those who plan to create a new account in the Philippines and New Zealand will have to pay the dollar.
