Popular multiplayer shooter game Fortnite has reached another record high active player count with one of the original season's "Save the World" game mode.
With the return of the Season OG, the game recorded over 50,000 active players playing the game's main story campaign on this Sunday. A week earlier, Fortnite broke another record with its high-time Battle Royale mode count.
Ripples of the game mode's revival can also be seen on the streaming community with Fortnite peaking at over 840,000 live viewers on Twitch.
The resurgence of the almost forgotten game mode made way back in 2017 is seen by many gamers as a chance for Fortnite to improve its base game platforms.
'Save the World' Story, Lore, and Gameplay
Intended as the main game mode, the "Save the World" story tasks players to fight against a horde of zombie-like "husks" after a storm wiped out 98% of humanity.
The Player vs Everybody game mode allowed players to build fortresses and reinforcements along with other players.
Each challenge also offers players the chance to craft weapons and level up their heroes to prepare against the next wave of enemies.
Unfortunately, players who bought the game's early access mode will be able to pay it for free. Others will have to contend with the $18.49 price tag on the game pack on the Epic Games platform.
'Fortnite' OG: Classic Map, Tilted Towers, Meteors, and More
Fortnite developers Epic Games announced the return of the classic gameplay mode and map, including the comeback of the iconic Tilted Towers that was destroyed back in 2019.
Classic weapons like assault rifles, pump shotguns, and hunting rifles will also make their way back into the "Battle Royale" mode along with the beloved shopping cart and the all-terrain kart.
Of course, signs of the OG natural disasters can also be seen with the meteor and Loot Lake cube live events. Reports also suggest that the rolling cube, volcano, and black hole events may also mark their returns.
This season's update is scheduled to run for four weeks with the first patch arriving last Thursday. The Nov. 16 update will cover seasons 7 and 8, while seasons 9 and X patch will come out on Nov. 23.
