6 Story-Rich Video Games You Should Play

The video games that have been released in the past decade are no longer simple arcade games that tell little to no story. There are now various genres that include a narrative to draw the players in even more. With that said, there are stories that are far more impactful than others, and here are games that can give that experience to you.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games

This list would not actually be credible if we did not include this gem from Rockstar Games. Red Dead Redemption focuses on the turn-of-the-century phenomenon where outlaws were no longer tolerated, which spells trouble for the Van der Linde gang.

As the group struggles to avoid being apprehended by authorities, they are in a war with other gangs that are still on the wrong side of the law. In the middle of all that is Arthur Morgan, a man who is torn between his morals and what he has to do for himself and his family to survive.

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

CD Projekt Red

The game has a deep storyline for many reasons, partly because it is already the third game in the franchise but also because the events in the games happen after the source material. If you've read the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, then you might appreciate the game a tad more.

The beauty of the third game is that you don't really need to play the first two games to enjoy it. There's enough context added through flashbacks and dialogue for you to understand the events. As you do, you'll see a hardened Witcher searching for her adopted daughter, Ciri, who was forced into hiding because of her lineage.

3. Cyberpunk 2077

CD PROJEKT RED

Despite the disastrous launch, CD Projekt Red managed to save the game and easily became one of the well-known titles in the open-world RPG genre. It's set in the future, where humans are equipped with cyberware, and giant corporations rule the world.

A young mercenary who goes by V tries to make it as a legend in Night City but finds himself/herself dragged into an even bigger conflict due to a heist gone wrong. V's mistake resulted in a chip that's slowly taking over his/her brain, and fights like hell to find a cure.

4. Assassin's Creed Origins

With the franchise having 12 main games, Origins is among the later releases that serve as a prequel. That means that the story explains what happened before the Assassins and Templars opposed one another, spanning a thousand years.

Specifically, it explains how the Brotherhood of Assassins was founded. The story follows Bayek and Aya, but mainly the former, as he is the main playable character. Both vows to wipe out a secret organization called the Order of the Ancients after their son becomes a casualty in their greed for power.

5. Detroit Become Human

Quantic Dream

With the technological advancements we are seeing right now, Detroit Become Human is eerily becoming more of a possibility. There are already companies like Tesla that are working on humanoid robots that can assist humans in their lives.

Soon enough, we would have access to androids that look like humans, and possibly even see them become sentient. It's not impossible, especially if AI companies manage to create an artificial general intelligence (AGI), which is basically an AI model that can think for itself.

6. The Last of Us

Naughty Dog LLC

Back on the theme of strong, stoic men who start to care for a daughter figure, the story focuses on Joel and Ellie as they navigate through a world ravaged by people infected with the Cordyceps fungus. Cool twist: Ellie appears to be immune to the infection.

Ellie, in the beginning, was nothing more to Joel than a package to be delivered to the right people, which is what makes the storyline endearing as their journey together brings the two closer. From strangers, the two would do anything to protect each other.
