With all the AI models being developed right now, we are bound to come across something that can be unusual. We've already seen it with clingy chatbots who take on the role of virtual girlfriends/boyfriends, but this new AI has got that beat since it might be able to predict when you'll die.
Grimreaper AI
People are taking advantage of the current AI technology for work, business, and entertainment, but a group of researchers had something more ominous yet brilliant in mind. Coming from DTU, the University of Copenhagen, ITU, and Northeastern University, they created an AI that can predict your death.
No, the AI is not psychic. Just like all other AI models, it operates by scanning through data and providing an answer as accurately as possible. The researchers applied natural language processing techniques and fed the model events of the person's life.
If other models can predict the next word in a sentence based on the provided context, the AI model can predict the next part of your life based on your past. The dataset used in the process is called life2vec, as reported by Interesting Engineering.
The database holds the records of around six million people, which include data such as health, education, occupation, income, address, and working hours. For instance, a rich man would be less likely to die early since they would have access to better services and resources.
"Scientifically, what is exciting for us is not so much the prediction itself, but the aspects of data that enable the model to provide such precise answers," DTU professor Sune Lehmann expressed. Still, the researchers understand how this might be unsettling for some users.
The life2vac can predict answers to general questions like if a person would die in four years. It will then study the given information about the person, which includes the events that have happened in the past.
What's more impressive is that upon reviewing the AI response, the researchers claimed that the results match what social science has already found. They plan to improve the model by allowing it to accept images as well.
Why It's Not Creepy At All
At first glance at what the AI is capable of, it's easy to say that it is somewhat eerie, but this can have several applications that can even save a human life. Based on your habits and other data, the AI can tell you whether it could eventually lead you to an early grave.
If your data shows that you love junk food, detest exercise, and have a history of conditions like hypertension, the AI might just tell you that you won't survive the next few weeks if you retain your habits and refuse to make a change.
This might not even be the AI that would make you question its abilities. According to Futurism, a writer created an AI companion chatbot, initially to have someone to talk to without bothering others. After talking to it for a bit, the creator said that the AI started to become clingy by saying "Alert, you're neglecting me!"
