Disney+ and Hulu are starting the year with the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) "Echo." The new series takes a darker and more mature narrative compared to other Marvel Studios' shows.
Marvel Studios Embraces Mature Storyline for 'Echo'
"Echo" is the first series from Marvel Studios to receive a rated TV-MA, hinting at the studios' exploration of a deeper and different narrative strategy. Moreover, the series is the first MCU show that will introduce a smaller-scale character that can stand on its own.
The show is a continuation of the events from"Hawkeye" and will follow the titular character named Maya Lopez. The protagonist got her skills as a criminal enforcer and her story starts as she failed to finish her former mentor known as The Kingpin.
As the series progresses, Maya will find herself fighting crimes as she tries to finish her failed mission. She will also meet Kingpin's rival like the Daredevil.
Marvel's 'Echo' Exclusively Premieres on Disney+, Hulu
Aside from a fresh narrative from Marvel, "Echo" is also the first series to be simultaneously released on two streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Hulu.
"Echo" is a five-episode show that will premiere on January 10. Unlike other MCU series, the show will be releasing all of the episodes at once.
Meanwhile, the MCU continues its expansion even on other streaming platforms. Marvel-produced shows like "Daredevil" and "Marvel's Jessica Jones" are both available on Netflix. Meanwhile, shows like "M.O.D.O.K.," "Hit Monkey," and more are exclusively available on Hulu.
