Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment reported that that Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 22 million copies in 2023 with around 2 million copies sold during the the December holiday season alone.
Based on its success, the company also teased the possibility of developing more "Harry Potter" games in the future.
Hogwarts Legacy Impresses Fans, Warner Bros.
In an interview with Variety, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment president David Haddad shared that he was thankful that the game was enjoyed by fans. Last year, the company also released Mortal Kombat 1, which gained positive feedback as well.
"It brought 'Harry Potter' to life in a new way for gamers where they could be themselves in this world, in this story," Haddad added. Moreover, he was proud to break into the top ranks that were mostly dominated by sequel games.
Overall, players have spent more than 707 million hours playing the game. In addition, 819 million potions were created, 1.3 billion magical plans were harvested and 594 million magical beasts were rescued, in just 2023.
Warner Bros. Confirms More Potterverse Video Games
Haddad shared that the company is already working to expand the Potterverse video game world. This includes a Quidditch-related game which is in its beta-testing phase. Meanwhile, there are also unannounced plans to be unveiled for the fans.
"We don't have any particular announcements on exactly how and when [the Quidditch game] is going to come to the market, but we are working to get it designed in a way just to delight fans," the president explained.
Outside the "Harry Potter" franchise, the company is also set to debut other games such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which will come out on February 2.
