Toshiba is Recalling 15 Million Laptop Adapters Over Fire Hazard

Toshiba is currently recalling over 15.5 million laptop AC adapters worldwide due to potential burning and fire hazard.

The recall was prompted after Dynabook Americas, formerly Toshiba, received 679 of their older adapters sparking, melting, and catching fire after overheating.

At least 43 incidents have been reported to have resulted in minor burn injuries.

According to US Consumer Product Safety Commission, laptop adapters from April 2008 and April 204 are the target of this recall.

Customers returning the old AC adapters will receive a replacement for free.

Toshiba Laptops Overheating Issues

This was not the first time Toshiba recalled laptop hardware due to overheating issues and potential fire hazards.

In 2017, the Japanese electronics manufacturer called for a return of all Toshiba Notebook batteries sold between June 2011 and November 2016, including the Panasonic lithium-ion cells.

The brand's laptops have long been known to have overheating issues, often causing the whole laptop to freeze, crash, or even sometimes actually start a fire.

At least 20% of the repairs reported for the Toshiba laptop were because of overheating.

Toshiba Overheating Fix, Remedies

While most issues with Toshiba laptops can be directed to its hardware, dust clogging its components can also cause it to overheat.

Regularly cleaning the heatsink fan and all exhaust points can help reduce the amount of heat trapped inside the laptop.

If hardware is often overheating, visiting a repair store can also be critical if intending to keep the laptop operating.

It is also recommended to switch to more recent Dynabook laptops or buy other brand's laptops to avoid risks of constant fixes due to its hardware issues.
