AR/VR headsets have gained so much popularity in the past years, especially with a lot of new dedicated games and apps for the devices. Thanks to the release of the Apple Vision Pro and Meta Quest 3, AR/VR headsets are more popular than ever, and it seems that the PS VR2 is getting left behind.
PS VR2 Extends Compatibility
The beauty of the devices developed by Meta, Apple, and other tech companies is that most of them can be used natively. The apps you would want to access would already be in the headset itself without having to tether it to a base unit.
That's the case with the PS VR2. The VR headset is basically useless if you don't have the PlayStation 5. Both the exclusivity and the dependence of the device make it somewhat of a lesser choice than the rest.
Unfortunately, PlayStation's VR headset is still not going to be a standalone headset, but Sony intends to include PC compatibility for the device. The updated support might arrive this year, and the company advised users to stay tuned for updates, as per Tech Crunch.
The statement was not the main topic of the blog post. All Sony said was that they were "we're pleased to share that we are currently testing the ability for PS VR2 players to access additional games on PC to offer even more game variety in addition to the PS VR2 titles available through PS5."
With the way the announcement was phrased, it's to be assumed that the PS VR2 might be able to run VR games available on PC, although that does not mean that the exclusive VR games for PlayStation will be arriving on other platforms.
On that note, the blog post actually listed a couple of new games for the VR headset, some of which are already out now and others that are set to arrive this year. It could be a way for Sony to reel in users despite the popularity of the Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.
New PS VR2 Games
The Wizards - Dark Times: Brotherhood was the first on the list, which has already been released. It is an action-adventure game where players get to be powerful wizards, even allowing you to cast spells with your own hands thanks to VR.
Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate will be out on June 27th, which puts players in a World War 2 setting with the ability to time travel. "Playing as Asher Neumann, players can seamlessly time travel at will, exploring immersive worlds and experiencing exhilarating action."
Next up is Little Cities: Bigger!, which is set to be released on March 12th. The city-building in diorama format brings players a more controlled gameplay by using the controllers' Sense haptics to sculpt the environment, even feeling the natural occurrences in the game like volcanic eruptions.
There are more games listed, the rest of which don't have exact dates for launch just yet such as Zombie Army VR which lets players navigate through the apocalypse in virtual reality, and Soul Covenant, an action JRPG set in near-future Japan where you battle hordes of approaching enemies.
