Users can head to Google when shopping for specific items, and the search engine will present results from various shopping sites online. While having many options could be good, it's still not easy being flooded with options as it takes more time to browse through them all. It might become easier with Google's new rating feature.
Rating Shopping Items
Just like Netflix allows users to rate shows and movies so it knows what kind of content to recommend next time, Google is also doing the same thing for shopping. From now on, rating items could narrow down the kind of item you might be looking for.
Instead of hopping from online shop to online shop, you can easily search for the item you need on Google, and the search engine will comb through the internet to find it for you. Even searching for a simple black t-shirt will show links from online shops first on the list of results.
Thanks to the Style Recommendations feature, you won't have to look through every single link to find the kind of product you like. By rating the products that show up, Google will be able to learn your preferences and provide more specific results tailored to your taste.
Once Google finally finds the kind of product you like, you can have more specific results by including brands that you prefer, and the search engine will find the particular product from that selection. This could not only make things easier, but Google might be able to find what you cannot.
The way it works is that US shoppers will have to use mobile browsers or the Google app when searching for clothes or items, and a section will be provided by the search engine where users can rate using the thumbs up and thumbs down system, or skip it altogether.
Use AI For Shopping
If the rating system still hasn't given you options for the kind of product you want, you can turn to generative AI to recreate what that item might look like, and Google will use the generated image to find the best match on the internet.
After typing in the description of the apparel you like, you can tap "Generate images" and a realistic result will be generated. After clicking on the generated content, all you have to do is scroll down to see the shopping items that are closest to what the AI created.
This feature has been rolled out since December, and users can opt into Search Generative Experience (SGE) to use the tool. It won't be enabled automatically, so you will have to head to Search Labs in the Google app for both Android and iOS.
Furthermore, you can even see what the clothes would look like on you. Google introduced a feature called Virtual Try-On (VTO), wherein US users can see how the product will look on a diverse set of models for sizes between XXS up to 4XL.
It won't just look like the clothing is pasted on either. The results will specifically show how the product fits, how it would drape, if it forms folds or wrinkles on certain body types, and what kind of shadows will show on the model.
