X, formerly known as Twitter, is on its way to becoming a competitor for several apps as more features are being added to what was once solely a microblogging site. In an effort to make it an "everything app" like Elon Musk hoped for, X is now adding a video conference feature as well.
Video Conferencing on X
X is turning into an app that you can do almost everything on. Between using X as a payment app to a platform for video and audio calls, Musk really is trying to cover all his bases to make rebrand X into an app for every need.
However, audio and video calls are not enough for the social media site. It also wants to be an option for video conference calls, which is already offered by services like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. For now, it's still unclear when the feature will be available.
The feature was first reported by X user DogeDesigner, who has been on top of X and Elon Musk-related news for some time. It can be found through the site's live audio platform called X Spaces, where people can join, listen, and speak in hosted sessions.
Most of the replies on the post are all for the new feature, with certain users saying that X would compete with many companies in many different areas. Another said that it was good news for people who don't want to sugar through Zoom meetings.
All X users can host an X Space session, which means they won't need to pay $8 for the Premium fee, although it's unclear whether the new video conferencing feature will be the same, given that a lot of new features are placed behind a paywall.
Other X Features You Might've Missed
Just this year, X also added the option for users to opt for X for audio and video calls for Android users, although the feature has been around for a while as it was already released for iOS users last year in October. Some of its functions are limited to Premium users only.
Any X user can receive calls through the app, whether it is audio or video, although only Premium members can make them, according to X developer Enrique Barragan. Users will have to enable the feature first before participating, as shown in The Verge.
It can be found through Settings, and then head to Privacy and Safety. Under Direct Messages, the feature can then be enabled or disabled. Users will have the option to manage which users can contact them such as people in their address book, users they follow, or verified users.
Payments for X will also be available soon enough with details released recently. The feature will let users send money to other users, purchase items in certain stores, and even earn interest on their accounts, as per Coin Telegraph.
X Payments Chief Information Security Officer Christopher Stanley said that it won't be limited to "just tipping," as users can "pull money into X" and store it in their X Wallet, which can then be used to send money to any X Payments user.
