GameStop employees shared that the video game retailer will start to buy graded Pokemon cards at select locations.
The retail company will only accept cards that are graded by the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) and must not be valued at over $500.
GameStop to Collaborate With PSA for Pokemon Cards
The Verge reported that one of the employees revealed that the event would be an exclusive collaboration between GameStop and PSA. However, the retail store will not offer in-store and in-mail grading services.
The company has reportedly started to inform its employees across multiple states. Some employees shared that stores are allowed to buy cards that PSA has graded at 8, 9, or 10. The cards must be in near-mint or with only slight imperfections to be accepted for sale.
GameStop will also not accept even the rarest cards once they hit a value of over $500. Cards that are graded in 10 but are considered to be valued at a much more expensive price would have to be sold somewhere else.
GameStop to Launch Largest Buy-and-Sell Operations
Once GameStop confirms the event, it will be one of the single largest buy-and-sell operations of graded collectibles. Reports showed that if all retail locations will participate, there will be nearly 3,000 stores in the U.S. where collectors can sell their cards.
As of writing, stores from Arizona, Illinois, New York, and Florida, have confirmed that the upcoming event is happening soon. This will be a good opportunity for collectors who have been investing in their Pokemon collection for the longest time.
GameStop has yet to announce the program, along with its release date. Even the employees are still not aware of the specific rollout of the program.
Customers will also be allowed to buy some cards at the store but it will most likely come from the $1 singles cards.
