Meta is Planning to Create AI-Powered, Camera-Equipped Earbuds

With AI tools and devices being in demand now more than ever, tech giants are investing in the technology and creating more products. Meta, for instance, has made progress in the integration of AI features into its social media platforms, and it intends to create AI-powered devices soon.

Meta's Rumored AI-Powered Earbuds

With the rise of AI and assistive technology, Meta is looking to create a device that has the capabilities of both. Equipped with a camera, Meta expects it to identify objects within its view, as well as translate language, which will probably work in real time.

The report is said to be from employees who are familiar with the plans. The project is called "Camerabuds," as mentioned in Reuters, although it is yet to be confirmed by the company. If it's true, then it could be the next market that Meta enters.

The assistive technology can be used in many ways, especially for people with impairments like blindness. With the use of the earbuds, they will be able to navigate through their surroundings more easily as the device dictates which items are in front of them.

It's also a good move on Meta's part since AI-powered wearable devices are gaining popularity, and entering the market early on will give it an edge. In fact, it already has a wearable device that can be equipped with AI capabilities.

Meta already announced the new generation of its Ray-Ban smart glasses last year. It will already have built-in AI features and will have the same speculated functions as the Camerabuds, and it will cost buyers $299.

Meta's Ray-Ban Smart Glasses

If you have no idea what the Ray-Ban smart glasses can do, just think back to the spy movies that use glasses to record audio and video. It's basically what the device can do and more, as it can also be used for video calls.

Through the glasses, you will be able to livestream what you see, so viewers can see the world from your point of view. You will be able to toggle between your smartphone and smart glasses' camera as well, which can be helpful for content creators.

As for the specs, the glasses come in several frames such as the Meta Wayfarer, Meta Wayfarer Scuderia Ferrari Miami LTD, Meta Skyler, and more. Each lens for various models comes with different lens colors and treatments as well.

The Meta Wayfarer, for instance, features green lenses and a Classic G-15 treatment. The cameras are positioned at the corner of the front frame. It comes with two custom-built speakers that are open-ear, as well as a custom 5-mic array.

The cameras are capable of capturing images in 4K, and the video quality can go as high as 1440x1920 pixels at 30 frames per second. The storage can store over 500 photos or over 100 videos with 30-second durations.

It can be controlled through touch and voice, and it comes with a digital assistant developed by Meta. The device can last up to six hours or moderate use, although it can fall to just three hours with continuous use.
