Amazon MGM Wins Bidding War for 'The Sims' Movie
The movie has reportedly pushed with Amazon MGM after a bidding war with Netflix. Reports have shown that while the latter company offered a larger bid, the producers chose Amazon MGM in favor of theatrical release before streaming it online.
Electronic Arts, which published the popular franchise, has been closely monitoring the development of the film. The gaming company will be directly involved in the creative and production aspects of the movie.
The production will be under Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment which consists of Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr. The company is behind some of the latest successful movies like "Barbie" and "Saltburn."
'The Sims' Movie Raises Expectations for Plot
The Sims franchise is known for its life simulation feature, making it unclear to fans how it will be translated into the film. Long-time players have suggested that the story could focus on pre-made Sims families that have been present in each series.
One of the most requested plots is the story of the Goth family who appeared in every part of the franchise. The family's story could bring answers and twists, especially with the infamous disappearance of Bella Goth.
The production is joined by Roy Lee and Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment and Herron known for the "Loki" series. Lee gained popularity for working on adaptations like the "Lego" movies.
More news is expected to be revealed in the following months as Amazon MGM and LuckyChap can now start fully developing the film for the fans.
