There are video games that could stand to gain more if it was given better attention than they had, and director George Miller implied that the 2015 Mad Max game was one of them. In an interview, the Australian filmmaker even suggested that bringing in Hideo Kojima would give a new Mad Max game more flair.
A Mad Max Game with Hideo Kojima's Vision
Death Stranding gained a lot of attention and received much acclaim because of its storytelling and cinematic gameplay, and the bright mind behind it was Hideo Kojima. Miller recognizes the skill and talent of the Japanese game designer and thinks that a Mad Max game would benefit from it.
When interviewed in Cannes, Miller brought up the game and admitted that it did not meet his expectations and that it was "not as good" as he wanted it to be. All the materials were given to the developers, Avalanche, and the director had no involvement in the creation of the game.
"I'm one of those people that I'd rather not do something unless you can do it at the highest level, or at least try to make it at the highest level," Miller expressed. He then mentioned Kojima and how he would put the designer in charge of another game if it were to happen, as per Gizmodo.
Anyone who's a fan of the game would be interested in having a Mad Max title with Kojima's brand of storytelling. It helps that the Japanese game designer is already a fan of the "Mad Max" franchise, which means that his involvement will already come with the passion the game deserves.
Unfortunately, Miller was not able to bring up the topic as he believed that Kojima was already busy enough with all his own ideas. "[H]e's got so much fantastic stuff in his own head that I would never ask him."
In just a little over a year, the 2015 game would already be a decade old, which means that a sequel would not be a far-fetched idea. In fact, it is long overdue and could serve as a chance at redemption after the initial game's relative failure.
It was released on the same day as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and players gravitated towards the other game more, leaving Mad Max in the dust. Avalanche co-founder Christofer Sundberg said that it was Warner Bros. who insisted on the release date, not the studio.

Kojima is Busy with Death Stranding 2
Sadly for those who were hoping for a Mad Max game at the hands of Kojima, the game designer is preoccupied with an upcoming release, which is a sequel to Death Stranding, and that's not the only iron in the fire.
Kojima Productions has also partnered with Xbox Game Studios to create a game called OD, which will have filmmaker Jordan Peele involved and has lead actors like Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schaffer, and Udo Kier. Peele's known works include titles like "Get Out," "Us," and "Nope."
