When looking for the right VR equipment, users would want to opt for a headset that has a wide selection of games. Unfortunately, The PS VR 2 is limited in that aspect as it can only be used on PlayStation VR games. That might not be the case any longer if the leaked filing is to be believed.
PS VR 2 Extends Its Compatibility
There are a lot of tech giants competing in the VR market including Meta with its Meta Quest headsets, Apple with Apple Vision Pro, and even Valve with Valve Index. Sony's PlayStation VR 2 is up there with the most purchased VR headsets.
One thing that PS VR 2 users aren't too fond of is the limits of the headset, particularly how it can only run games from the PlayStation store, and how it cannot function without the PS5 console, but that's about to change soon enough.
On a filing found by AR/VR enthusiast Brad Lynch, Sony is certifying an adapter for its latest VR headset making it compatible with PCs, as shown in Engadget. This will certainly be a game-changer for Sony once the adapter is released.
Although PlayStation has a good library of games, it is very limited compared to the choices a player can have on PC, and compatibility with another device will bring in more buyers for the headset, especially since sales have been down for the PS VR 2.
It's unclear how the adapter would work for now. It's likely that Sony will also be using a USB-C cable as it is the way the headset connects to the console. As for game control, it could work the same way a PlayStation controller does on PC games.
The news comes at the best time if people are willing to gamble that the compatibility really will arrive, as the PS VR 2 is on sale for $100 off with the Days of Play sale. That makes it cheaper than its competitors with Valve Index priced at $999.
PS VR 2 Games You Could Play
If you purchase the headset now during the sale, you can play plenty of games to kill time while you wait for the PC compatibility. As mentioned before, Sony has a good selection of VR games that offer unique experiences from certain game franchises.
For instance, the PS VR 2 is the only headset that allows you to play Horizon: Call of the Mountain. If you haven't gotten the headset yet, you can purchase the bundle that includes the mentioned game for $500 during the sale.
With the popular Resident Evil franchise, you may also play Resident Evil Village, which is among the most-played horror games in the VR space. Players have praised the game for its immersive gameplay as the in-game actions can be performed manually.
Beat Saber has been available for most major VR headsets, which means you can also play it on the PS VR 2. The rhythm game is known to be as entertaining as it is challenging, and it has been one of the most searched games in VR libraries.
