Every streaming service has its own leading TV show that drives subscribers to its business. With Prime Video, one of the series whose fanbase continues to grow is "The Boys." However, no matter how popular, the show seems to already have an end in sight.
'The Boys' Ends with Season 5
Fans of the show are eager to watch the premiere of the fourth season with three episodes coming out on June 14th. But, the good news comes with bad news. The satirical superhero show is not going to be around for long.
Show creator Eric Kripke announced on X that season five will be the final season, and that it has always been his plan. "I just had to be cagey till I got the final OK from Vought. Thrilled to bring the story to a gory, epic, moist climax," he continued.
That means that the story fans have been following has already been carefully planned to fit a five-season storyline. On the bright side, there are still two seasons before the final episode, so there's plenty of content yet to be seen.
Besides, knowing that "The Boys" is among the biggest franchises that Prime Video has, it's unlikely that it really will end after the fifth season. There is still so much potential that can stem from the base show such as spin-offs and prequels.
In fact, there already is one. Titled "Gen V," it follows the stories of the first generation of superheroes who got their abilities from Compound V. As fans already know, it is the same substance that gave characters like Homelander their abilities.
Another spin-off coming out of the base show's finale wouldn't be that far-fetched, and may even be expected. This can be taken as good news, given that fans would rather see a show end at its peak instead of being stretched out serving as a cash cow.
That's what happened with another show under Kripke. He was also the creator of another popular series, "Supernatural," which is where Jensen Ackles, the actor for Solider Boy in "The Boys," gained his popularity.

Netflix Has a Hit Show Ending As Well
Prime Video still has two years with "The Boys," but Netflix is already losing one of its most popular originals within the year. Set to be released this November, the second season of "Arcane" was also announced to be the last one for the series.
The announcement came with the release of the final official trailer, which paints a more vivid picture of what fans can expect from the upcoming season. Perhaps one that has a more similar situation to "The Boys" would be Netflix's "The Witcher."
According to Netflix, season four is already in production, and the team will do a back-to-back shot with the fifth and final season. The last two seasons will cover the remaining books in Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series.
The show's creator and showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said that they are "thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski's books to an epic and satisfying conclusion." The next season will be the first time we will be seeing Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.
