If you ask people in their 20s to tell you about the cartoons that shaped their childhood, you can expect titles like "Martin Mystery," "Winx Club," "Spongebob Squarepants," "Samurai Jack," and more. You'll find that someone will also say "Totally Spies," and they would be happy to know that it's getting a live-action series.
'Totaly Spies' Live-Action Series
As expected, fans will be seeing the trio as the main characters of the series. Clover, Sam, and Alex will be international spies who will be working with WOOHP, all while they balance their lives as college students in their first year.
The show is already in production at Amazon and will have Will Ferrel as its executive producer. It is based on the cartoon series of the same title from Banijay Kids, formerly known as Marathon Media, which was created by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and David Michel.
The show first came out in 2002, making it more than two decades old, and managed to air 180 episodes. It even premiered its seventh season just recently in France after not releasing new episodes for ten years, as reported by Engadget.
If the live-action takes elements from the animated series, fans would be happy to see familiar gadgets like the girl's Compowder, which is a phone disguised as a compact mirror so the girls can contact Jerry, who is the head of WOOHP.
It will likely be in the show since that little gadget allowed the girls to fulfill their tasks in many ways as it can access computer systems, changing their clothing for specific missions, serving as a camera, conducting a medical analysis, and many more.
There are also a number of other gadgets with various purposes disguised as everyday items like hair dryers, high heels, and lipstick, which opens the possibility of disguising anything a typical college freshman usually uses.
Other 2000s Cartoons That Have Been Adapted
If you feel nostalgic and want a more adult-appropriate version of the cartoon you grew up with, Netflix actually has an adaptation based on the animated series "Winx Club." It even features the beloved characters from the show and is not just an adaptation based on the show's universe.
Titled "Fate: The Winx Saga," you'll find characters like the red-headed Bloom, who is a fire fairy, along with other notable characters like Musa, Sky, Flora, Riven, and other familiar characters you've seen from the animated TV show.
Even "Teen Titans" has been adapted into a live-action show, although it has a darker tone than the cartoons. Since they are already adults in the live-action series which you can also watch on Netflix, the show is simply called "Titans."
It features characters from the main group such as Robin, who is now known as Nightwing, as well as Starfire, Beast Boy, Raven, and even other DC characters like Hank Hall, Barbara Gordon, Deathstroke, and of course, Batman himself AKA Bruce Wayne.
The show first aired in 2018 and it went on for four seasons, showing how the group's abilities and powers improved over the years. Unfortunately, the show has already been canceled and ended in 2023. There won't be a fifth season.
