Nintendo Direct is Finally Scheduled, But an Awaited Topic Won’t Be Discussed

Several video game companies and studios have already finished their own events such as the Xbox Showcase and Ubisoft Forward. Now, it's Nintendo's turn to make announcements for their upcoming games, but there is one announcement that fans should not expect.

Nintendo Direct 2024

The video game giant first announced that it would be hosting the event during its latest earnings call, but it never disclosed an exact date for it. It has now been scheduled for June 18th and will take place at 10 a.m. ET.

With the hype from the other announcements dying down, it's the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to bring attention to its upcoming titles. The event will be 40 minutes long, as mentioned in Endgadget.

It will only be focusing on the games that are set to be released within the year, unfortunately, which means that there won't be any news about the upcoming next-generation handheld, which will serve as a successor to the Nintendo Switch.

The only confirmed news about the second-gen handheld which people are currently calling Switch 2, is that it will arrive sometime in April next year. Other than that, it's just unconfirmed rumors, no matter how credible the sources may be.

As for the games, it's also unclear which ones will be discussed during the event. Currently, there are first-party games that are yet to be released such as Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition, so it will likely be covered during Nintendo Direct 2024.

Of course, Nintendo fans are hoping to get new games from beloved franchises under Nintendo, but there's nothing left to do but wait for the event. It's not that long of a wait since it takes place tomorrow live.

Rumors About the Nintendo Switch 2

Just a week ago, Nintendo announced that it intends to announce the next-gen handheld "within this fiscal year," which means that the company is in fact, already working on the next device that would run better than the Switch.

It was first expected that the handheld would be announced this June, but Tom's Guide reports that it has been delayed for next year. With the estimates, the device might see a release date in March 2025, and that's an optimistic date.

It was said that the delay was due to Nintendo wanting to be sure that its supply could match the demands that the handheld console would get at launch. We all know how disastrous that can be based on the PS5 supply when it was released, wherein some people got their hands on a unit after two years.

Based on a leak, the next-gen console might get an eight-core Cortex-A78AE processor, 8GB of RAM, and on;y 64GB of eMMC storage. It's definitely an upgrade from the current-gen Switch, but it might not be able to handle heavier AAA games.

Hopefully, the successor would be powerful enough to handle heavy games on medium settings at least. The handheld console did get a few bad reviews when Hogwarts Legacy was released, with players saying that the game was playable but had a lot of setbacks.
