Nintendo of America announced its plans to open a San Francisco store at Union Square in 2025, marking its second physical store in the U.S. alongside New York City.
Nintendo established its first American retail location almost 20 years ago in New York, which sells the company's official merchandise.
Nintendo Adds Second US Retail Store After Two Decades
In a recent announcement, it was revealed that the upcoming store will be called Nintendo San Francisco. The store will offer a wide range of options for visitors seeking to experience the world of Nintendo through products and characters.
In an X post, San Francisco mayor London Breed shared the exciting news in the city. "This is great news for Union Square and fans from everywhere! We're excited about San Francisco's future and look forward to welcoming this iconic brand to our City," she said.
The shopping district, which used to be popular, has been experiencing a series of vacancies. Several stores like Macy's have already announced their departure to the area.
Nintendo Expands Retail Experience in the US
Nintendo has been selling its merchandise in physical stores in theme parks like the Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood in California. The company also promotes its products and characters online, pushing customers to purchase digital games.
The video game company has also ventured to expand its gaming franchises by producing movie adaptations and more. Next year, the company will open its first Donkey Kong Country section in Universal Orlando.
Nintendo has yet to reveal specific details about the upcoming San Francisco store. The New York City retail store is a two-story spot with merchandise and hardware on the first level while the second level features display cases of all Nintendo consoles.
