"Game of Thrones" is among the most popular TV shows of all time, so much so that it has spawned several spin-offs, both existing and in production. With the success of the prequel "House of the Dragon," another one is on its way following the story of a knight.
'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'
With the Targaryen-centric show set about 200 years before "Game of Thrones," the upcoming show will be closer to the events of the base show as it is only set a century prior. It will follow the story of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.
It will be based on a novel written by George R.R. Martin as well titled "The Hedge Knight." The two mentioned characters will be wandering into Westeros. Since it is set about 100 years before Robert Baratheon's reign, a Targaryen still sits on the Iron Throne.
According to The Verge, the people of the realm still remember the age when dragons existed. It's also interesting that the protagonist knight is described as "naïve but courageous," and we all know how naivety can be dangerous in a place like Westeros.
With the series now in production, it won't be that long before we see the first episode. The show is said to have six episodes for the first season and will air on Max like the other IPs. While it does not promise dragons and White Walkers, it's interesting to see what a simple knight can go through.
Add It to 'Aegon's Conquest'
Aegon the Conqueror, the first of his name, has been mentioned in "Game of Thrones" and even more so in "House of the Dragon." Described as one of the most epic events in the history of Westeros, Aegon united the seven kingdoms as one with the power of his dragon.
He rode the famous Balerion the Dread as his sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys ruled alongside him with their dragons as well. It's unclear where the show will start off, but it will likely be after the Targaryen flee Old Valyria after The Doom.
Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin is already working on the show. "That one is very early days where I'm currently writing the script, currently doing a lot of great back and forth with George," as mentioned in Entertainment Weekly.
'Ten Thousand Ships' Also in the Works
Unlike the rest of the prequels, "Ten Thousand Ships" goes back much further as it is set a thousand years before "Game of Thrones." It will follow Princess Nymeria, who is an ancestor of House Martell and founded Dorne.
You might recognize the name since it was present in the base series, particularly one of the Sand Snakes along with Arya's direwolf. If anything, the upcoming show proves just how deep the "Game of Thrones" lore is based on the world George R.R. Martin had created.
It definitely is an interesting way to peek into that world backward, starting from the first King who was not a Targaryen, to the civil war that almost led to the fall of the house of the dragon, to the arrival of the dragonlords on Westeros, and the army that traveled from Essos and founded Dorne.
