Netflix’s ‘Cobra Kai’ Might Get a Spin-Off After the Final Season

A lot of great Netflix shows are coming to an end. "Arcane" and "The Umbrella Academy," for example, are getting their final season this year. With "Cobra Kai" ending with season 6 in 2025, the show might actually go on and extend its narrative to spin-offs.

'Cobra Kai' Creators Are Already Working on Stories

If you're a fan of the "Karate Kid" universe and have been tuning in to the show that brought Ralph Macchio and William Zabka back on screen, you might be saddened by the fact that the upcoming season will be the last one.

You won't have to worry since the creators of the show still have a few stories in them, and they intend to bring those to screens as well. Co-creator Josh Heald said that they would love to continue to work within the IP's universe, as reported by Gizmodo

"It's our favorite universe to play in and we have a lot of other ideas that are on our minds already that we're starting to discuss with our partners," Heald continued. He, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg are trying not to reveal too much for now.

They did clarify that the follow-up will not make the ending for "Cobra Kai" less satisfying, and that they are not talking about the already upcoming film within the same universe. Suffice it to say that fans can expect new projects set in the same universe.

"We had so many balls in the air when we entered season six in terms of characters you care about, storylines that are in progress, and characters and storylines that we want to begin to tell because we're always telling something new with a new season as well," Heald said.

He continued that some of the storylines and arcs will end neatly while others will not, which means that there are plenty of things on the table to pick up after. "There's always more on the table because each new season just creates new branches of that tree."

It's quite possible that the story continues on as the kids go to college, or one of the major characters would become a sensei to a new group of unlikely kids to learn karate. There's nothing left to do but wait.

'The Karate Kid' Reboot

The first "Karate Kid" movie just turned 40 years old this June, and the one starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan was released in 2010. Some would say that a reboot would be a good time right about now, and they would be right.

In fact, one is already set to be released in 2025. Sony announced that the film will "return to the original Karate Kid franchise," as per Screen Rant, so maybe we'll get that same nostalgic feeling every time we hear the words "Wax on wax off."

It's still unknown how the upcoming film will be placed into the timeline, especially since "Cobra Kai" is the canon continuation of the 1984 movie. It would be exciting to see how the creators would fit in Jackie Chan as Mr. Han from the 2010 remake.
