EA Assures Video Game Strike Won't Affect Company Plans

EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared that the company is "not anticipating any significant short-term impact" to its ongoing projects while there is an ongoing strike.

The performers under the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) started a strike last July 26 to address the increasing concerns about AI.

EA Expects No Significant Short-Term Impact Amid Strike

During its recent quarterly earnings call, Wilson stated that they are working closely to negotiate with video game actors amid the ongoing strike against major gaming publishers. He also assured its shareholders that EA's ongoing services will not be interrupted.

"We deeply value our talented actors who are an important part of the work we do to deliver the incredible entertainment experiences that our players enjoy around the world," he added.

EA is among the major video game publishers that SAG-AFTRA went on strike against after a series of negotiations for a new contract. The video game actors seek clarification on the appropriate AI protections for performers and the companies' definition of what is classified as performers.

EA Looks Forward to The Sims Franchise Expansion

EA also shared news about its biggest franchise The Sims. Wilson stated that the company is committed to continuously improving the game and hinted at more than 15 updates in the following year.

The CEO detailed that The Sims is not only expanding its platform and gameplay. The company teased that it has plans to bring "deep social connection and broader platform expansion in key geographies around the world."

Last May, Amazon MGM announced that it picked up "The Sims" movie. The production will be moving forward with Margot Robbie's company LuckyChap Entertainment and director Kate Herron.
