Google Stops Chromecast Production After Over a Decade

Google revealed that it is ending the production of its Chromecast line after over a decade in the market of streaming dongles.

The tech giant assured its customers that it will still be available in the market until supplies last and updates will still push through on newer devices.

Google Discontinues Chromecast Line

In 2022, Google released its latest Chromecast with Google TV device. The company has surprisingly decided to stop producing new gadgets related to the lineup due to technological evolution.

"We are taking the next step in evolving how streaming TV devices can add even more capabilities to your smart TV, built on top of the same Chromecast technology," Google wrote in a blog post.

The company also looked back on the idea behind the success of the device. In 2013, Google launched Chromecast as a solution for unreliable streaming and connection on TVs. Many people loved the device due to its convenience and cheap price.

Google Invests on Expanding Android TV, Set-Top Box Offerings

Google reported that Android TV has reached 220 million devices worldwide. As a replacement for the discontinued Chromecast line, the company introduced the Google TV Streamer.

The device claimed to be a premium gadget that fits the new era of entertainment and smart homes. It is an AI-powered device that is capable of personalized streaming which retails for only $99.99.

Google TV Streamer provides access to thousands of movies and shows by supporting popular streaming platforms. This includes YouTube TV, Netflix, Apple TV, Disney+, and more.

"To make it easier to find what to watch, Google TV Streamer uses Google AI and your preferences to curate content suggestions across all of your subscriptions, organized conveniently in one place," Google added.

Google TV Streamer will be available on September 24 on Google Store and other retailers.
