Meta is now testing one of its most popular features on Facebook and Instagram for its Threads app, but there will be a different spin. Instead of disappearing stories, the feature being tested is more like "disappearing posts" on the text-based platform. Like the Stories feature, Meta will make these posts "disappear just like poof" after a 24-hour period is up and will leave no traces.
Apart from the posts, the feature will also remove the replies that a user gained on a post since posting it on Threads.
Meta's Threads Test 'Disappearing Posts'
A new report from TechCrunch revealed the new feature Meta is currently testing on Threads, and it offers users a chance to have their posts disappear from the platform after 24 hours. The report claimed that after being rumored by users who spotted this months ago, a Meta spokesperson recently confirmed that this feature is coming soon.
For now, only a limited number of users are allowed to test out the feature on Threads. This development comes after Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri claimed that there will be an "auto-archive" feature on Threads that will remove posts from user accounts and the feed.
Threads Posts, Replies to Expire After 24 Hours
Through this feature, Meta's Threads users will no longer have to worry about looking for their posts in the past day and deleting them manually. Like how Instagram's Stories work, users only need to create this post via the dedicated feature and it will automatically be removed after the 24-hour period elapsed.
Not only would the user posts be removed from Threads, but it would also include all the replies it had gathered since it was published.
Meta's Developments on Threads
It has only been a year since Meta introduced Threads to the world, offering an alternative for X (formerly Twitter) to users. Threads is a text-based platform where people can enjoy a connected experience while being updated with the latest news and happenings. Threads is widely known to be a spinoff of Meta's Instagram.
Since its launch, Threads has undergone developments and upgrades. One of the most notable on is its Application Programming Interface (API), which was shared with developers who are looking to create more experiences for users in the future. Through this, developers may create new third-party apps and experiences that will enhance what Meta has to offer on Threads, particularly with the recent introduction of its TweetDeck-style platform.
Moroever, there are a lot of features on Threads that are available for free users like the option to edit posts. It should be noted that such as feature is a paid one on X. Given recent reports, it seems a new feature is underway for Threads, one that will be beneficial for users who want certain posts to disappear from the platform after 24 hours.
