Meta Launches Swipe Feature to Customize Feed on Threads

Meta introduced a new feature that allows users to customize their For You feed by swiping through various topics.

Posts that interest the users should be swiped right, while topics that are not interesting should be swiped left.

Threads Enables Swipe Action for Customize Feed

In a Threads post, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced a new update that will give users more control of their platform experience. Users would have to swipe based on their interest to fix their feed.

"We'll use those signals to show you more posts like the ones you swipe right on and fewer of those you swipe left on. I hope this helps you find more posts that you're interested in," he wrote.

Last week, the company introduced a customizable dashboard interface. Threads is also now available on desktops globally, giving users more tools to explore. The desktop version also initiated the customized feed feature for users.

Threads Plans for Decentralized, Personalized Experience

Earlier this year, Threads began its beta testing for fediverse support. The feature is now available to users who are 18 years old and above with public profiles. However, it is exclusively available to the U.S., Canada, and Japan only.

The company has been trying to differentiate its platform from other competitors like X. For instance, the former Twitter platform has been using the traditional social media algorithm which predicts and suggests all the possible content.

On the contrary, Threads aims to give more user control by allowing its users to personalize their feeds and let them decide on the content they want to engage with. This move could potentially boost the monthly active user count of Threads.

Currently, Threads records more than 150 million monthly active users. This is still low compared to the 600 million monthly active users of X as reported by Elon Musk.
