In with the New: Google Readies for TV Streamer Launch, Hides Chromecast

Google is preparing for its upgraded streaming device as it is close to launching the Google TV Streamer, and it seems that part of its preparations includes removing Chromecast from its online store. This is in line with what Google plans for its set-top box-like device, particularly as it already ended Chromecast's development and production to make way for the new device.

For over a decade, Chromecast ruled as one of the most popular streaming devices available, but Google is moving away from dongles from here on out.

According to 9to5Google, the Chromecast is no longer part of what Google is offering in its smart home collection. This move is reportedly due to the fact that Google is now getting ready to launch its TV Streamer, a new tabletop device that is set to replace its Chromecast dongles.

Last month, Google officially unveiled the Google TV Streamer to the world, and it will now be the centerpiece for smart homes and improvements in entertainment that the company wants to offer. It is more expensive than Chromecast 4K + TV, as these dongles only cost $49.99. The Google TV Streamer, however, is double its price.

Google TV Streamer will be available by September 24 for $99.99.

What Does Google TV Streamer Bring to the Smart Home?

Google TV Streamer is touted as the all-in-one solution for home entertainment needs as it can deliver "personalized streaming" paired with smart home features and AI-powered experiences for users. It is powered by Gemini and comes with entertainment upgrades such as 4K HDR, Dolby Atmos for audio, and Dolby Vision for video.

Users may also get a connected experience via its Google Home panel, which connects Nest cameras, speakers, and doorbells, and offers controls for lights, temperature, and more.

The End of an Era for Google's Chromecast

Chromecast is among the earliest devices that introduced "streaming sticks" and launched a new era for television sets at home. Users who were not keen on getting a new smart TV to replace their flat screens may instead opt for the streaming stick to get a more cost-effective upgrade that relies on an internet connection.

Initially, Chromecast focused on connecting Android devices to larger displays. However, Google made it so that it would be a device of its own, offering users smart TV functionality where they can stream, binge, and play under one device.

It has since seen its fair share of notable rivals in the market with the likes of Amazon's Fire TV Stick, Roku's Streaming Stick, and the Apple TV.

It was only this year when Google officially ended Chromecast's production as it moved on to other developments, as the company decided to no longer focus on casting capabilities. Instead, it will focusing more on the streaming side of entertainment.

With this, the Google TV Streamer is born, with many believing it is to rival the Apple TV 4K, which is a black-box device that largely focuses on entertainment. Coming this late September, Google TV Streamer will officially begin a new era for the Google's streaming capabilities.
