Your future travels with United Airlines will ensure that you are kept online and connected to a global service as the company has recently partnered with SpaceX's Starlink for its satellite WiFi services. Users will soon have access to Starlink's space-based internet network on board United's more than 1,000-plane fleet.
It has been revealed by both companies that this service will slowly rollout to United's planes once its its target testing phase begins in early 2025.
United Airlines Brings Starlink Satellite WiFi to Over 1,000 Planes
According to United's latest press release, its partnership with Starlink will provide satellite internet to passengers. This satellite internet will be accessible through WiFI and is available for travelers to enjoy for free during pre-departure, in-flight, and upon landing to use for whatever they need.
According to United, this deal with Starlink will provide flyers with a gate-to-gate experience, with different services available for users to enjoy. These include answering emails, browsing the internet or social media, gaming, or streaming live TV and on-demand media.
All of these will be possible on United planes thanks to Starlink.
Testing Phase for United, Starlink's Internet Service
Starlink's service is guaranteed for all passengers in different classes offered by United, and there is no need to pay additional fees to access in-flight WiFi via satellite internet. The high-speed and low latency service of Starlink will also be available on the headrest screens for users to enjoy.
United plans to begin its testing phase for Starlink's internet availabilty on its planes starting next year, with the first passenger flights to get access by 2025. It has been revealed by United that its largest aircraft will be the first to get this satellite internet service from Starlink.
Starlink in Land, Air, and Sea Domains
Starlink first rolled out its services for use in land territories, and it provided homes with satellite internet access that brought a promising experience in terms of bandwidth and connection speed. It slowly expanded its regional availability worldwide, initially starting in the United States and before moving on to Asia, as well as other remote places such as Antarctica.
After this, SpaceX's next move was to offer satellite internet to the sea with Starlink making its network portable for users to use on coastal regions and when traveling on bodies of water.
Eventually, Elon Musk also offered SpaceX's Starlink to private jets at first, but later made it available for commercial airlines, centering on public flights.
