SpaceX Introduces Starlink Mini for Limited Time

The company revealed that the new internet device will be offered to a limited number of Starlink customers. For its early access release, it will be available for $599, making it more expensive than the base model "Standard" antenna for residential service.

"Starlink Mini is a compact, portable kit that can easily fit in a backpack, designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet on the go," SpaceX wrote in an email received by a customer.

Despite being more expensive than the standard device, SpaceX shared that the company plans to reduce the price of Starlink over time. The satellite service provider also aims to extend connectivity for areas where the internet is inaccessible and unaffordable.

SpaceX Offers Bundle for Starlink Mini

The Starlink Mini's $599 hardware cost is also coming with a service subscription for $150 per month. SpaceX is offering the Mini service for an additional $30 per month as a top-up for the usual $120 per month Residential service.

According to the company, the service can be used anywhere in the U.S. with a limit of 50GB of data per month. Any additional data used will be charged by $1 per gigabyte.

The Starlink Mini is equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi router that has a lower consumption compared to the company's other existing antenna. Regardless, SpaceX assured the customers that the download speed is still over 100 megabits per second.

As of writing, SpaceX has yet to announce when it will be available. The company already started to send out invites for customers to get early access to the device.
