The new PlayStation 5 system update released by Sony brought a new feature for DualSense controllers called Adaptive Charging, but it seems that this new feature is not available for all consoles. When the feature was first made known to the public, many were intrigued by what Adaptive Charging has to offer PS5 users and its most important gaming accessory.
PS5's latest update is now live, but this Adaptive Charging feature is exclusive to only one console among Sony's releases.
Sony's Update for PS5 Brings Adaptive Charging to One Console Only
Sony's PS5 system update version 24.06-10.00.00 is now available for users, and it brings a slew of new features to enjoy, including the Adaptive Charging capability for DualSense controllers. However, there is an important note in this release that claims that the feature is only available for the "CFI-2000 model group," which is more commonly known as the PlayStation 5 Slim.
It remains unknown as of press time why Sony only made this available for the PS5 Slim and not for the original PS5 model that came before it.
However, it has been speculated that the reason behind this is that the PS5 Slim has hardware that offers better power management, and considering that it is the latest release, it is the only console that has it. According to ComicBook Gaming, it is unknown if Sony will offer the feature for the upcoming PS5 Pro.
DualSense Adaptive Charging: Here's How It Works
When Adaptive Charging is turned on, users can only charge DualSense controllers if the PS5 Slim is on Rest Mode. It will manage the power used by the console as it remains plugged in to also charge DualSense controllers if the battery is low.
Once the DualSense is fully charged, the PS5 will stop supplying power through the USB-C wire. Adaptive Charging also works for the DualSense Edge, PS5 Access controller, and PS VR2 Sense controllers.
Sony's PlayStation 5 and its Future
Sony themselves leaked the new PS5 Pro console, which has long been rumored and talked about by the public, through the PlayStation 30th anniversary poster. This new model of the PS5 offers is said to be the best there is thus far, as it is seen as a powerful device capable of delivering a great gaming experience for users.
With this release, Sony has already completed the PlayStation 5 lineup that is concurrent to its previous PS3 and PS4 releases, with each having its base model, Slim version, and the Pro console. However, its real-world performance is yet to be tested as the PS5 Pro is only available for pre-orders as of writing, with Sony planning to deliver the console comeNovember 7.
There is sure to be a lot more to expect from Sony's future updates for the PS5 series now that all versions of the PlayStation 5 are here.
