As the Google I/O 2014 draws closer, anticipation is building up and a new HTC Nexus tablet has now leaked ahead of the big event.
Rumors of an HTC-made Google Nexus tablet have been making rounds for quite some time, suggesting that the slate may come to replace the LG-made Nexus 7. A new report now offers more information regarding the purported tablet's design, specs, and pricing. While the Google tablet from HTC has so far been dubbed the Nexus 8, however, the new report claims differently.
According to Android Police, Google has teamed up with HTC for a new 8.9-inch tablet codenamed Volantis or Flounder. The 8.9-inch screen size was rumored before, but for the Nexus 8, while the new report claims that this tablet is referred to as the Nexus 9 internally. Considering that the screen size is close to 9 inches, however, the Nexus 9 moniker does seem more appropriate. The publication notes that it will not treat this information as a simple rumor, as it feels confident in the accuracy of this leak.
When it comes to specs, the report reveals that the HTC-made Nexus tablet may sport an 8.9-inch display with a 2048 x 1440 resolution and a pixel density of 281 ppi. Other purported specs include a 64-bit NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor under the hood, paired with 2GB of RAM and 16/32GB of internal storage capacity. The handset is further expected to feature an 8-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), stereo front speakers, LTE connectivity, as well as a premium zero-gap aluminum construction.
HTC has received high praise for the premium design it used in its One family of devices, and its Nexus 8 tablet may be similarly premium.
In terms of pricing, Android Police reveals that the 16GB Nexus 9 model may cost $399, while the 32GB version may come with a $499 price tag. The tablet will reportedly be available with LTE on board as well, costing just slightly over $600.
With nothing officially confirmed so far, however, take this new report with a grain of salt. If this HTC-made Nexus tablet is indeed real and set to make its debut soon, we should hear more about it in just a couple of days, when Google I/O 2014 kicks off. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
