With the highly-anticipated iPhone 6 launch just around the corner, retailers are dropping the prices of the existing iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C models.
This is a common practice each time a new flagship product is about to make its debut, as dropping the prices of the previous generation helps retailers clear off stock and make room for the new model.
Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 is one of the hottest devices expected to debut this year and will launch as the successor to the iPhone 5S and its plastic, lower-end counterpart, the iPhone 5C.
In anticipation of the next-generation iPhone, CNET reports that Walmart is getting ready to cut the prices of the existing iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The publication learned about this new deal from a Walmart spokesperson.
Starting on Thursday, Aug. 21, Walmart will reportedly slash the price tags of the existing iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The premium model will go from $99 to $79, while the lower-end plastic version will drop from $29 to just 97 cents. As expected, these prices will apply when agreeing to sign a two-year service agreement with a carrier.
More specifically, the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C prices will be available for all colors of the smartphones when signing a two-year contract with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, or US Cellular.
The iPhone 6 is widely expected to make its official debut next month, launching in at least one model. Apple is rumored to have two iPhone 6 models in the pipeline, one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with a massive 5.5-inch screen, but some reports indicated that the larger model may launch at a later time.
The September launch for the iPhone 6 remains unconfirmed at this point, but Walmart's move to cut the prices of the existing iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C further boosts claims that the next-generation iPhone is ready to make an imminent debut. Last year, for instance, retailers such as Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and others, started to cut the price of the iPhone 5 weeks before the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C became official.
The iPhone 6 is expected to boast notable improvements over its predecessors, packing not only a larger display, but also some neat new specs and features such as NFC, wireless charging, enhanced LTE, an improved Touch ID fingerprint reader, a better camera, and more.
If you don't necessarily have to have the very latest gadget, however, these new price cuts make the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C more attractive than ever.
