Motorola is apparently gearing up to launch a global variant of its new Droid Turbo, which may debut next week as the Moto Maxx.
The freshly-launched Droid Turbo is a real powerhouse with top-notch specs and features all around, with all the qualities of a high-end flagship smartphone. The device raised lots of interest worldwide when it made its debut on Wednesday, Oct. 28, but its availability may limit its success.
The Droid Turbo hit commercial availability on Thursday, Oct. 30, but it is available exclusively on Verizon Wireless in the U.S. As it turns out, however, Motorola may soon be launching an international version of the smartphone - and by soon we mean in less than a week.
Brazilian publication Technoblog reveals in a new report (translated) that it has received an invite to a Motorola event set for Nov. 5. While Motorola didn't specifically say what it plans to unveil and the event next week, the invitation is pretty self-explanatory. As you can see in the image above, the invite clearly shows the back of a Droid Turbo smartphone, and if that's not enough, Motorola used the exact same image on the Droid Turbo product page on its website.
According to the publication, this global variant of the Droid Turbo will hit Brazil (and most likely other markets) as the Moto Maxx. Considering that Motorola got a trademark for the Moto Maxx name earlier this year, this claim sounds plausible.
The international variant of the Droid Turbo should come with mainly the same specifications as the Verizon-exclusive model, as well as identical features. For those unfamiliar with the device, the new Droid Turbo sports a 5.2-inch display with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor under the hood, clocked at 2.7GHz and paired with a hefty 3GB of RAM.
Other specs include 32/64GB of internal storage capacity, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, and a huge 3,900 mAh battery that lasts for two days on a single charge. The smartphone also supports Motorola's Turbo Charging technology, which allows it to get up to eight hours of battery life from a 15-minute rapid charge. On the software side, the handset borrows popular features from the Moto X, including Moto Actions, Voice, Assist, and Display.
With such specs and features on board, the Droid Turbo is expected to be quite popular among consumers, and wider availability would surely boost its success. Launching a global version of the smartphone would make sense, but it remains unconfirmed for now. As always with rumors and reports, take everything with a grain of salt until an official announcement. If this turns out to be accurate, the Moto Maxx will formally debut as soon as next week.
