The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor is reportedly facing some serious issues that may delay mass production, in turn affecting the launch of some 2015 flagships.
Some of the top-notch flagship smartphones expected to launch next year are widely rumored to pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 beast of a processor. If the Snapdragon 810 faces production delays, however, the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4, and other 2015 flagships that are expected to rock the new CPU may face launch delays as well.
For those unfamiliar with the matter, the Snapdragon 810 is the latest processing powerhouse from Qualcomm. Just recently, the chipmaker launched its Snapdragon 810-powered MDP smartphone to give an early taste of the CPU before release for commercial products, but it now seems the processor still needs some serious work.
According to a new report out of Korea, Qualcomm is facing some tough hurdles with its Snapdragon 810 chipset and may have to delay mass production as a result. If this occurs, it would directly affect the launch of 2015 flagships set to pack the CPU.
More specifically, Business Korea reports (via GforGames) that Qualcomm has yet to resolve several issues with its new Snapdragon 810. Such issues include the CPU overheating when reaching a certain voltage, thus leading to notable performance drops, issues with the RAM controller connected to the application processor, as well as some error in the Adreno 430 graphics driver.
The report further highlights that if Qualcomm doesn't manage to resolve all issues in time, it may be forced to delay the mass production of the chipset. This means that the Snapdragon 810 may not be ready in time for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the LG G4, and other flagship smartphones set to debut in 2015. As a result, OEMs relying on the Snapdragon 810 may either have to delay their product launches as well, or go for other alternatives.
While Samsung has its own Exynos processor and may use it as a fallback option, LG and other OEMs may face a more difficult situation if the Snapdragon 810 is not ready in time.
Keep in mind, however, that it's all in the rumor state for now and it remains to be seen how it will all pan out. Even if Qualcomm is indeed facing such issues with its Snapdragon 810, it may still be able to resolve them in time to avoid delaying the launch of 2015 flagships. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more, but take this report with a grain of salt in the meantime.
