Samsung is reportedly back to the drawing board for its next-generation Galaxy S6, and a Galaxy S6 Edge is in the cards as well.
According to a new report, the company wants to make its Galaxy S6 flagship for 2015 from scratch, in order to make it truly stand out in an attempt to return to the great sales of the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4.
In an exclusive new report, SamMobile reveals that Samsung's next-generation flagship smartphone will be called the Galaxy S6, and it's currently in the early stages of development.
When it comes to specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is rumored to come with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 or an Exynos 7420 processor under the hood, and run the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The handset could join the QHD party and rock a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, but no info has surfaced so far regarding the screen size.
The next-generation Samsung Galaxy S6 is also expected to be the first smartphone in the series to pack 128GB of internal storage capacity, while also retaining a microSD/SDHC card slot for additional memory.
Lastly, the Galaxy S6 is also expected to sport a 16- or 20-megapixel rear camera, as well as a high-quality 5-megapixel front shooter to join the selfie craze.
In addition to this model, rumors also hinted toward a Galaxy S6 variant with a curved display, and SamMobile now bolsters such claims.
"We have also learned that similar to the Galaxy Note Edge, Samsung will be launching a variant of the Galaxy S6 with a curved display, called the Galaxy S6 Edge (the name could change in the coming months, but we don't think there's a high chance that will happen.) We don't have more details, but we're guessing the curved screen will be similar to that of the Galaxy Note Edge's and will bend at one side of the phone," notes the report.
This purported Galaxy S6 Edge may see a limited release only in select markets, but it all remains unconfirmed for now.
Samsung has not announced nor confirmed any plans in this regards, and it's still early to know for sure just what its 2015 flagships will bring to the table. We'll keep you up to date as soon as more information surfaces, but treat all leaks, rumors and reports with a grain of salt.
