HP teams up with Bang & Olufsen to bring premium sound to upcoming devices

HP has teamed up with renowned audio and video technology company Bang & Olufsen to equip various HP devices with superior audio features and accessories.

Under this new partnership, the two companies will add B&O audio technology to a number of HP computers, laptops, tablets, and other devices.

"Audio plays an important role in the experience customers have on their PCs, tablets and accessories whether it's watching a movie, listening to music or Skyping with friends and family," Ron Coughlin, senior vice president, Personal Systems, HP, said in a new press release on Tuesday, March 24. "With their passion and expertise, we are thrilled to work with Bang & Olufsen to create exceptional sound experiences for customers."

"Bang & Olufsen and B&O PLAY have a long heritage in delivering great music and audio experiences for people no matter where they decide to enjoy their media," added Tue Mantoni, CEO, Bang & Olufsen. "We are excited to collaborate with HP to bring our iconic sound to HP PCs."

As part of this exciting collaboration, HP and B&O will custom tune each PC, notebook, tablet, and accessory to deliver a high-quality audio experience. All HP devices with the Bang & Olufsen or B&O Play brand will boast a dedicated audio island that will isolate the audio circuits from other signals on the motherboard, according to the announcement. The headphone jack, meanwhile, will have limited metal parts in order to reduce ground noise and allow for precise sound.

"Because customers want the ability to customize their audio for movies, music and voice, HP devices include an audio control panel. This allows customers to customize and enhance their audio experience based on preset configurations tuned by HP and Bang & Olufsen. Customers can choose from optimized presets or manually tune the sound to their liking," the press release further notes.

The first HP devices to launch with Bang & Olufsen audio technology on board will arrive this spring, and will include the HP Spectre, Omen, and Envy systems. Some commercial HP PCs will get the same treatment as well, carrying the Bang & Olufsen brand. HP Pavilion PCs, tablets, and PC audio accessories, meanwhile, will come with the B&O Play brand.
