HP Spectre x360 debuts at MWC 2015 as company’s ‘most premium and versatile’ PC

A new HP Spectre x360 hybrid laptop made its debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), sporting a 360-degree hinge that allows it to flip into a tablet.

Such hybrid laptop/tablet devices have gained significant ground in recent times, and the trend continues to gain momentum. HP has now unveiled its new Spectre x360 laptop, claiming that it is its "most premium and versatile" computer to date.

"Customers are looking for beautiful devices that deliver quality, versatility and portability," Mike Nash, vice president, portfolio strategy and customer experience, Personal Systems, HP, said in the press release. "The HP Spectre x360 is transformational as it has the productivity of a high end notebook, tablet mode for on the go, tent mode for play and stand mode for watching entertainment in a stunning ultra-thin device."

"With the HP Spectre x360, customers get an ultra-thin PC with additional versatility to experience multiple modes in one device. Users can transition seamlessly from notebook mode for work, stand mode for viewing entertainment, tent mode for touchscreen entertainment, or tablet mode for on the go. To ensure the display glides smoothly and stays in place where a user wants it, the HP Spectre x360 has innovative new hinges that contain a set of three spiral gears for synchronized and precise movement. The geared hinge design allows the HP Spectre x360 to maintain the same thin profile in tablet mode that it has when closed. "

The new HP Spectre x360 boasts a sleek design with an ultra-thin body and a stylish aluminum design, and its display can turn all the way around, allowing the device to serve as a tablet. The display measures 13.3 inches and comes in two options: one with full HD and the other with QHD resolution.

Under the hood, the HP Spectre x360 comes with either an Intel Core i5 or Core i7, depending on configuration, and can support up to 8GB of RAM. Other specs include a solid-state drive (SSD) ranging from 128GB to 512GB, a 56Whr battery, USB 3.0 ports, SD card reader, HDMI port, a Mini DisplayPort, an extra wide trackpad, and a backlit keyboard. On the software side, the device will ship with Windows 8.1 on board out of the box.
