The much-touted Apple Watch is finally set to go up for pre-order next week, on April 10, starting at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time (PT).
Apple officially unveiled its very first smartwatch, aptly called the Apple Watch, back in September 2014, but the gadget has yet to hit commercial availability. Upon the formal unveiling, Apple simply said it would launch the device in early 2015, and more recently the company started offering more details in this regards.
On Friday, April 3, Apple updated its webpage for the Apple Watch with additional information, noting that interested customers will be able to pre-order the smartwatch starting at 12:01 a.m. PT on April 10. Up until now, the company had revealed that pre-orders will kick off on April 10, but had not disclosed a specific time.
Moreover, Apple has also offered details in regards to the AppleCare+ pricing, revealing that customers who want insurance for the Apple Watch Sport model will have to shell out $59. As expected, the price goes up for higher-end models of the smartwatch. As a reminder, the Apple Watch will come in three variants: the Apple Watch Sport, the Apple Watch, and the top-of-the-line Apple Watch Edition.
Starting on April 10, Apple Store retail locations across the U.S. will also have Apple Watch units on display, allowing interested customers to find their favorite model before placing a pre-order.
The Apple Watch will officially hit stores later this month, on April 24, but customers won't be able to simply walk into an Apple Store and buy the smartwatch on the spot. The Apple Watch will be available for purchase only by reservation when it hits stores, so interested buyers might want to plan ahead.
The wearable device market has already taken off and it's increasingly gaining momentum, with a number of notable gadgets already available for purchase. The retail launch of the Apple Watch is expected to heat things up even further, while other players should also join the race this year. While the Apple Watch has stirred plenty of interest since its debut and its commercial release is highly anticipated, it remains to be seen whether it will be as successful as other smartwatches with more affordable price tags.
