Sony Xperia Z4 flagship could debut next week, on April 20

The highly-anticipated Sony Xperia Z4 flagship smartphone may finally make its debut as soon as next week, on April 20.

While other companies such as Samsung and HTC chose to unveil their latest flagships at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, Sony made no mention of its Xperia Z4 at the show. The company took the wraps off a new Xperia Z4 Tablet back at MWC in early March, but the next-generation Xperia Z4 smartphone is yet to make an appearance.

According to a new RBMen report (via GforGames), Sony is getting ready to unveil a new smartphone in Japan on April 20, and the Xperia Z4 may very well be the star of the event. No concrete evidence suggests that Sony will indeed introduce the new Xperia Z4 flagship, but it would be about time for the smartphone to make its formal debut.

It remains unclear at this point just what specifications the Sony Xperia Z4 will have on board, as various reports so far have provided different details. Some said the handset would boast a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, while others said it would in fact have a full HD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Most reports, meanwhile, agreed on a screen size of 5.2 inches.

Other rumored specs for the next-generation Sony Xperia Z4 include an octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, paired with 3GB of RAM and a range of internal storage configurations. The handset is further expected to feature a high-end 20-megapixel Sony Exmor RS rear camera for quality photos and videos. On the software side, the smartphone will ship with Android Lollipop out of the box. Just like most recent Xperia devices, the Sony Xperia Z4 should also be waterproof and dust-resistant for extra durability.

No other details are available at this point, and it's not certain whether the Sony Xperia Z4 will indeed make its official debut on April 20 in Japan. The event is less than one week away, however, so we'll soon know the official scoop straight from the source. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
