Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 images leak ahead of expected June unveiling

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 series is expected to debut in June and now some leaked images claim to show the tablets' design.

The Galaxy Tab S lineup of tablets launched last year as Samsung's highest-end slates, boasting the best displays the company has ever packed onto a tablet. A new-generation Galaxy Tab S2 is now expected to make its debut soon with premium specs and features all around, and rumors peg the unveiling for sometime in June.

Recent rumors have also indicated that the Galaxy Tab S2 would sport a sleek build and a thin design, but newly-leaked images show that it may in fact not be as thin as previously thought.

The images in question come from trusted tipster @OnLeaks, who has proved to be accurate on several occasions in the past. The purported Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 poses for the camera showing both its front and rear sides, giving us a good look at its potential design. While previous whispers indicated that the slate could measure just 5.4 mm in thickness, @OnLeaks believes it will measure roughly 5.8 - 5.9 mm.

Based on these photos, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will also sport a SIM card slot next to the microSD one, which means that the tablet will come with cellular connectivity options as well. Samsung will likely launch Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Cellular versions.

The latest leak doesn't reveal anything else regarding the Galaxy Tab S2 specifications, but previous reports tried to paint a picture of what to expect. Based on rumors so far, the next-generation Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will rock a Super AMOLED display with a high resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and pack a 64-bit Exynos processor developed in-house, paired with 3GB of RAM. Samsung is rumored to launch 8-inch and 9.7-inch models in the new series, and may equip the slates with sleek metal bodies.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 series is further rumored to come with an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2.1-megapixel front snapper, 32GB of internal storage capacity, microSD card support for additional storage, and Android 5.0 Lollipop on the software side.

If rumors turn out to be accurate and Samsung does indeed plan to launch its new galaxy Tab S2 in June, more information should come to light shortly. Until a formal announcement, however, take all leaks and reports with a grain of salt.
