Roughly two months after Mojang unveiled the trailer of Minecraft: Story Mode, a spinoff game of the hugely popular adventure game, the release date of the episodic Minecraft version has been revealed on Amazon. It appears that Minecraft: Story Mode will be coming to players earlier than expected.
According to a report from Mirror UK, the first episode of the game will be made available in North America on Oct 27. Amazon U.K., for its part, has listed the game to be sold in the country beginning on Oct 30. Game developer Telltale, however, has not confirmed the release date.
Minecraft is a hugely popular game. Because it enables its players to come up with strategies and creative tactics to survive in the Minecraft world, the game has been used by software giant Microsoft to teach school-age children subjects like English, geometry, reading and writing.
The game is becoming a mainstream teaching aid in some parts of the U.S., Scotland and the U.K., which probed Microsoft and U.S. company ThoughtSTEM to come up with educational projects and MODs for the game. The Mojang-created game has been purchased by Microsoft in 2014, for $2.5 billion.
Minecraft has sold over 70 million games since its release in 2009 and a movie based on it has even been shown. The newest Minecraft spinoff, Minecraft: Story Mode, is already expected to be a hit. A product of Telltale, which is known for its knack for narrative games, the spinoff is expected to perform just as well as other Minecraft versions in sales. Telltale is the company behind the Game of Thrones game.
Minecraft: Story Mode will give players access to four more episodes after it has been purchased. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android devices and Apple Macs, PCs and iOS devices. Last month, Minecraft Pocket Edition has also been released for Android and iOS.
