Mobile App Brings Booze To Your Doorstep

Toronto, Canada - People are already accustomed to delivery services for food products like pizza and other fastfood. Ordering can already be done via smartphone, as many of the businesses have put up websites and apps for their customers' convenience. Now, a new smartphone app in Canada called Thirstie hopes to hit it off with Canadians as it takes drinks, booze, to be exact, on their doorsteps.

Thirstie will be rolling out to Android phones first. It is currently being tested on the iPhone according to a Toronto Sun report. No further elaboration has been made regarding the exact dates of the app's availability. Thirstie allows users to place orders on their preferred drink- alcohol, wine or spirits-using the app. The app partners with licensed alcohol dealers that have been working in the community for years.

Thirstie began testing the app in Ottawa and Toronto starting Tuesday, The New York-based company said it will charge about $10 for delivery fee per order. Operating hours vary among the cities. Apart from selling and delivering alcohol, the app also offers cocktail recipes to let shoppers explore new drinks and go ahead with bigger orders in their next purchases.

CEO Devaraj Southworth said that the app addresses areas where other alcohol delivery apps have fallen short. The app has an age verification feature to ascertain that alcohol is being sold to those who are already of legal age. Customers will be carded at the door upon the delivery of their orders, and they will be charged with fees if they are found to be underage.

"We do everything possible to let the user know this is something we take extremely seriously, but at the end of the day it's still the responsibility of the (delivery) company," Southworth pointed out. The company plans to roll out the app to 27 cities in Ontario before the end of January.
