GM And LG Team Up For Chevy Bolt

General Motors and South Korea's LG Corporation have made a partnership in making a second generation Chevrolet Bolt into an electric car. The carmaker will be entrusting the car's batteries to LG, and is scheduled to debut in 2010.

The uproar of the electric automobile technology has been fast-paced and those gas-guzzling cars could be a thing of the past. With this in mind, General Motors makes efforts in designing its own variety of electric automobiles by redesigning the Chevrolet Bolt an all-electric vehicle. Teaming up with LG for the car's battery system, the Bolt promises to go on the move at 200 miles on a single charge.

The Michigan-based carmaker deep-rooted that LG will be providing not just the batteries, but all of the vehicle's powertrain systems for the upcoming media briefing on the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV at General Motors' Warren Tech Center. Powertrains, batteries, information-entertainment, and other tech-related gadgetries included in the car will be entrusted by GM to LG's expertise. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is scheduled to be mass-produced in 2016, and will be made available across the US and other Chevrolet's worldwide markets.

GM's Executive VP for Global Products Development Mike Reuss divulged that Chevrolet needed to be disruptive, so as to maintain its leadership in the electric car industry.

Taking the best of GM's engineering skills in establishing the Chevrolet Spark EV along with LG's expertise, the carmaker can reshape the future of the electric automotive industry by making affordable electric cars.

The Chevrolet Bolt intends to compete with its market rivals like BMW's AG i3, Nissan's Leaf, and Tesla's Model 3.

Back in 2007, LG and GM had a previous history in making cars. They have worked hand in hand as they were building a telematics system known as OnStar. At present, the South Korean Company has invested at least US$250 million for its Incheon facilities for engineering and manufacturing in light of the Bolt's components and car systems.
