Blue light from electronic devices can have negative effects to one's bed time, and it can even cause eye strains if it isn't filtered. Mountain View sees this as a problem, and therefore releases an update to the Google Play Books app for users that read before they drift off to sleep at night.
Google through the official Android Blog has announced Night Light, a new Google Play Books app update that makes night-time reading more enjoyable for anyone and less stressful to the eyes for those that read even in the dark.
According to Google, user activity of the Play Books app peaks between 8:00PM and 10:00PM local time, which puts it in between sleeping schedules for most people. Majority of them would be without a proper light source. As such, Night Light seeks to help reduce the strains caused by reading in the dark.
Night Light gradually filters blue light from a user's device, replacing it with a warm, amber light whenever it gets dark. Night Light automatically adapts to the amount of natural outdoor light based on the time, giving users the right amount of display temperature as well as brightness.
In the early parts of the day, pages on Google Play Books will appear in the color setting that the user has chosen. As the day moves and the sunlight fades, the pages will have a warm amber color progressively.
Night Light is still rolling out to Android and iOS users, but those who don't want to wait can head to APKMirror and download the apk file to install the update. APKMirror compares cryptographic signatures to make sure users will be getting a legitimate copy of the application. After the download finishes, users can simply tap the notification and install the app directly from there.
