Alan Anderson is the latest man added to the LA Clippers team rosters. Team management may still be looking for new recruits since the Clippers are reportedly trying to avoid paying a higher tax penalty for going over the salary cap.
The Clippers has filled its rosters with veteran players and draft picks like Jamal Crawford and Brice Johnson. Most if not all of them have secured their salaries.
The LA Clippers have paid the tax penalty for three consecutive seasons, according to ESPN. If the team violates the salary cap again, it will pay a higher amount in tax penalties. Before Anderson, The LA team could be penalized by almost $2 million.
On August 2, the LA Clippers sign up Anderson for one year at a cost of $1.5 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. In theory, that would mean the Clippers will pay the taxman almost $4 million. The LA Clippers now have 15 players in its roster including Alan Anderson. The Clippers could possibly avoid the penalty if it can make a trade preferably with a player with a lower salary.
Alan Anderson played with the Washington Wizards during the previous seasons. The forward / center player however, has not played much due to injuries to his groin. Anderson also had a left ankle surgery which only allowed him to play 13 games in the entire season. The LA Clippers hope that he would do better this season than the last one when he was with the Wizards.
His limited play in the 2015-2016 season only got him an average score of 5 points per game. The 33 year old player is currently an NBA seven year veteran. During that span of time, his average score improve slightly at almost 8 points per game.
