NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics Planning To Get JR Smith And Russell Westbrook?

The Boston Celtics is rumored to be closing on a deal to get Cleveland Cavalier player J.R. Smith to the team. There are also rumors that the Celtics has not yet given up in getting Russell Westbrook.

Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is reportedly prepared to give J.R. Smith a $15 million contract, according to Sports Rageous. NBA observers said the deal would not be necessary if only James Young or RJ Hunter's shooting skills were at par with J.R. Smith.

Smith's shooting record last season was impressive enough to convince the Celtics in offering him a deal. However, some will not be pleased with his presence in the team. Sources say that Coach Brad Stevens does not think Smith is a good addition to the team no matter how good his skills are in the court.

The Boston Celtics management may have made up its mind on Smith. Team management told the press earlier that Tyler Zeller will not be returning next season to give way to JR Smith's single year contract.

Meanwhile, it seems that the Boston Celtics are still trying to get Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma Thunders, according to Sports Rageous. Ainge is reportedly willing to offer the 2017 and 2018 Brooklyn Picks to the Thunders in exchange for Westbrook.

Currently, Westbrook is under contract to play one more year for the Oklahoma Thunders. But he has not made any commitment if he is willing to extend his contract. If the Thunders management could not convince Westbrook to stay for a few more years, they might consider trading him now.

This is also Ainge's dilemma with Westbrook. Before he makes an offer to the Thunders, Ainge will insist on a multi-year contract with Westbrook. If the deal pushes through, the Boston Celtics will finally have that superstar player that may carry them to victory in the upcoming season.
