Kobo Catching Up To Amazon Kindle With Aura One, A 7.8 inch E-reader

More often than not, individuals associate the Amazon Kindle with e-reading. It has, since its launch, proven to be the device to been in its relatively small industry. However, the entry of the Kobo Aura One may just change the game.

Kobo Aura One Specs

According to Gizmodo, Kobo will release its own e-reader, called the Aura One, which will be available for purchase starting September 6th. The Aura one weighs in at only half a pound and is only 6.9mm wide, despite having a 5.9 inch screen. THe device is also waterproof for up to 30 minutes, in waters as deep as 2 meters.

Reportedly, the larger size of the e-reader provides users with the feel of reading a hardbound book. The Aura One also has an automatic adjuster for brightness, depending on the surrounding light. Further, users can set a bedtime for the device and it will slowly dim towards that time.

Aura One Size

As Tech Crunch adds, the 7.8 inch Aura One is actually the perfect size. It is not monstrously big, but it is sizeable enough that users can comfortably read documents - especially PDFs - without having to pinch, scroll and readjust every sentence.

Kobo e-Reader Design

The device has a flush display and the bezel is of standard side. The design of the back is not the standard for e-readers, as it has slightly tapered sides. This design allows for a textured surface that is still soft to the touch. On top of the device is the power button.

Aura One's Book Selection

Users can borrow books with the Aura One's OverDrive feature. That is, users can choose books from the local library. Although, the selection may admittedly be small and the length of reading might be limited as well. Therefore, while the Aura One definitely has more features than the Kindle, it still does not have the wide-array of literature that Amazon is able to provide its users.
